Malacca Hospital Gets More Funds

PUTRAJAYA: The medicine shortage at the Malacca Hospital has been resolved as additional funds were disbursed to the hospital last month.

Health director-general Datuk Seri Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman, however, said he was not satisfied with the slow response of the hospital staff.

“They (hospital) should have taken proactive action to re-plenish their stock of medicine as they were aware that some supplies were running low since September.

“Even if their allocation for the year was insufficient, they should have asked for additional funds before the medicine shortage started to affect patients,” said Dr Hasan.

He assured that the medicine supply had been replenished.

Dr Hasan said he would meet the hospital administration next week to seek further clarification over the matter.

Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam was quoted in a tabloid as saying the incident was due to the ministry’s failure in releasing the rest of the yearly allocation (RM3.5mil) needed in September by the hospital to buy the medicines.

However, he said that it had only affected the Malacca Hospital and not other hospitals in the state.

On Wednesay, it was reported the state government had ensured fresh supply of medicine at public hospitals following a shortage which caused hardship to patients for nearly a month.

Most of the medicine that was out of stock were for diabetes and hypertension.
