La Trobe student wins 2013 Victoria pharmacy student title

La Trobe University pharmacy student Rebecca Boschert has been named as the 2013 PSA Victorian Pharmacy Student of the Year.

Ms Boschert won the Victorian title from three other finalists – Lauren Lee and Jane Stephens from Monash University, and classmate Amy Waldron from La Trobe University.

On behalf of the judging panel, Mr Michael Scavone congratulated all four finalists for their exceptional performance which once again lifted the standard further from previous years.

All finalists demonstrated high level of clinical knowledge and communicated exceptionally well during the competition.

Mr Scavone said that the pharmacy profession was in good hands with such talented young students coming through.

The Victorian PSOTY final is well supported by all pharmacy schools in Victoria.  Besides the enthusiastic support of the cheering squads of the two competing schools, the RMIT University Pharmacy School also had a strong presence.

Victorian Branch President Ms Michelle Lynch congratulated Ms Boschert and the finalists for their excellent achievements.

“I am very confident that Ms Boschert will be a great representative for Victoria in the national final competition which is to be held at PAC in Brisbane in October,” Ms Lynch said.

Victorian Branch Director Bill Suen acknowledged the support of teaching staff from Monash, La Trobe and RMIT Universities; the judges Mr Michael Scavone, Ms Cynthia Foo, Dr  Safeera Hussainy, Ms Katherine Baverstock and Ms Christina Dennis; student MCs Raveena Chadha and Adam Livori; past winners Sarah Carminati and Kahlinda Mahoney; VPSA, RAPS and BAPS.

He also thanked the effort and professional input from his Branch staff, especially Ms Samantha Evans for making the annual event another great success
