Committee on Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy, Department of Health (DOH), held the convention of the border management for Chinese Medicine importation on October, 2011 to ensure the safety of Chinese Medicines usage. Red dates, astragalus, chinese angelicas and licorice roots will sampling batch for examination, and radix rehmanniaes, ligusticums, tuckahoes, white peony roots, atractylodes, and eucommia barks will be reviewed in paper. All of these can be imported if qualified.

Chairperson Huang Lin-huang of the DOH’s Committee on Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy noted that for the importation of ten kinds of Chinese medicines including radix rehmanniaes, ligusticums, tuckahoes, white peony roots, atractylodes, eucommia barks, red dates, astragalus, chinese angelicas and licorice roots have to attach certificate of analysis (COA) with heavy metal test, aflatoxin test, and pesticide residue test at the primary stage of driving the border management of Chinese medicines.

About the relative details of “the examination for border management of Chinese Medicine importation”, the obligor of the application for imported Chinese medicines inspection shall enclose the attachments of application form for inspection, the hard copy of application of import, the hard copy of the licence of Chinese medicinal merchant, and the official COA from the exporting country when imported Chinese medicines to Taiwan. If the obligor cannot provide the official COA from the exporting country, the merchandise will be retained at the gateway until receive COA from the inspection laboratory which is approved by DOH, Executive Yuan, or the pharmaceutical manufacturer which is complied with Good Manufacturing Practice for Chinese Medicine. And then the application for inspection will be received.
