The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) is delighted with the success of its first Clinical and Practice Expo (CPExpo) held in Sydney at the weekend.

The PSA’s NSW President, Professor Charlie Benrimoj, said that the event attracted more than 1,100 delegates and exhibitors, including a large contingent of more than 120 interstate delegates.

He said CPExpo is a new and innovative event developed by the NSW Branch of PSA and designed to bring together pharmacists, patient support groups, patients, allied health professionals and the pharmaceutical industry with the aim of improving our nation’s health through excellence in the practice of pharmacy.

“We are delighted with the positive response to CPExpo. Delegates have indicated that the mix of clinical, practice and business topics was relevant and pitched appropriately at their continuing education needs,” he said.

“The focus on medicines information, patient support programs, medication reviews and disease state management was well received.”

Professor Benrimoj said it was particularly gratifying to have representatives from consumer and patient support organisations presenting at CPExpo, with a very positive response from delegates to this new initiative.

“The need for inter-professional communication and a focus on patient-centred care is essential.  It was great to have Sally Crossing AM from the Health Consumers NSW present the opening plenary and providing the patients’ perspective of the healthcare experience,” Professor Benrimoj said.

PSA National President Grant Kardachi opening CPExpo said that CPExpo is the embodiment of the PSA’s mission and the latest example of how it as an organisation responds to the changing and expanding needs of its members and the profession in a constantly evolving environment.

“Over the past couple of years the Board, management and staff of the PSA have been working hard to deliver more benefits and services to members, which assist them meet the many demands placed upon them,” he said.

“These benefits and services include the provision of in-store support to assist diversify income stream and increase professional satisfaction through the delivery of professional services, through to the development of a new website providing greater functionality and usability.”
