-Mission and Objective

   The mission of Western Pacific Pharmaceutical Forum is :

To strengthen all aspects of improving health and the quality of life of the citizens of the member countries in the Western Pacific Region through interaction with WHO governments, conferences, symposia, training programmes.

   The mission will be achieved by the implementation and managemention and management of appropriate projects relating to:

  1. Dissemination of drug information to other health professionals, patients and the general public

  2. Implementation of drug utilisation studies and pharmaceutical care projects

  3. Participation in health promotion and health education programmes, including the prevention of disease and disability

  4. Promotion of all scientific and relevant aspects of pharmacy practice into the curriculum of all schools of pharmacy in the Region

   The objectives of the Forum:

 Shall be to encourage and support a dialogue among national and regional pharmaceutical associations in the Western Pacific region of WHO and WHO WPRO by:

  1. Improving health in the Western Pacific Region by development and enhancement of pharmacy practice

  2. Encouraging the implementation of pharmacy service and pharmacy practice projects by national pharmaceutical associations

  3. Supporting WHO-policies and integrating appropriate WHO policies into undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education programmes

  4. Combating the production and distribution of counterfeit medicine and the sale of medicine by people who are not qualified

  5. Formulating policy statements on health issues, identified at meetings of the Forum

   The WP Pharmaceutical Forum has a variety of projects with the immediate projects including a program to encourage consumers to ask more questions about their medicines and pharmacists to be proactive in this area.

-About the Forum

   The Western Pacific Pharmaceutical Forum (WPPF) was founded in September 2001. Following the concept of the WHO EuroPharm Forum, and with the support of FIP, the regional pharmaceutical forums have been created to further develop pharmacy practice around the world. In collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Forums bring the national pharmacy associations together to increase dialogue, understanding and activity in the regions, and enable the pharmacy profession to have a greater impact on improving pharmacy services and health.
